Life Support Training (LiST)
Established under the umbrella of SCOPE, the Shifa LiST Center strives to provide the complete suite of Emergency Cardiovascular and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation efforts including Heartsavers, Basic Life Support – BLS, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support – ACLS, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support – PALS trainings.

Objectives:
- To provide essential Life Support Training services for medical practitioners across healthcare institutes throughout the country.
- To set the benchmark for regional Life Support services by incorporating up-to-date educational syllabi employed globally.
- To improve existing safety standards for patients and practitioners during the administration of essential life support care.
- To document and address inherit flaws in operational practices employed by collecting and analyzing feedback from participants and faculty.
- To build a network of Life Support service providers by developing future instructors.
Life Support Training stands at the core of proficient emergency care, empowering healthcare practitioners to respond swiftly and effectively in critical situations. By honing skills in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), professionals become adept at administering immediate care during cardiac or respiratory emergencies. This training not only elevates patient care standards but also ensures practitioners stay abreast of evolving protocols and technologies, maintaining a high level of safety for both patients and themselves. Moreover, by fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing, Life Support Training cultivates a network of skilled instructors, perpetuating the dissemination of life-saving expertise throughout the medical community.
Basic Life Support Courses:
Shifa LiST Center (AHA Accredited International Training Center), organized the BLS Courses.
These courses were attended by the healthcare providers (doctors and nurses) to enhance patient care by imparting critical Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) education at the highest standards.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Courses:
Shifa LiST Center (AHA Accredited International Training Center), organized the ACLS Courses.
These courses were attended by the healthcare providers (doctors and nurses) to enhance the administration of adults that are facing cardiac and pulmonary arrests.
Corrective Action – Plan
- After reviewing the implemented strategies, corrective action is taken on or start the process (PDSA) again.
- Training Center will have to submit a written plan of corrective action to the Shifa Executive Committee.

Course Feedback Plan
Feedback Collection:
- Post-Course Surveys: Standardized post-course surveys to collect feedback from participants upon completion of AHA courses.
- Timely Collection: Ensure feedback collection immediately after course completion to capture participants’ fresh insights and experiences.
Feedback Analysis:
- LiST Team will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing the feedback received.
- Analyze feedback to identify recurring patterns and trends to identify areas for improvement or areas of strength.
- Prioritize feedback based on the severity of issues and the frequency of mentions to determine areas that require immediate attention.
Regular Reporting:
- Periodic reports summarizing the feedback analysis results, highlighting key findings, and documenting improvements made should be share with the stakeholders.
Action Plan:
- Develop an action plan to address the identified issues and implement necessary improvements.
- Assign responsibilities to relevant stakeholders and set realistic timelines for each action item.
Continuous Improvement:
- Monitor the impact of the implemented changes and solicit ongoing feedback from participants.
- Regularly review and update the feedback plan to ensure continuous improvement of the courses and training center.

Management of Communications and Updates – Plan
- AHA specific updates are received by TCC and AHA Instructors on ATLAS.
- Whereas Instructors will receive updates on the portals at AHA Instructor Network, the TCC/TCA will follow up with each instructor through emails, meetings, and digital communication channels.
- If no acknowledgement is received from the instructors, a second cycle of follow ups will be conducted after a week (06 business days) of the first cycle.
- If no acknowledgement is received from the instructors, a third and final cycle of follow ups will be conducted after 48 hours of the second cycle. This cycle will include line stating that the ITC has informed Instructors of updates thrice via official modes.
- The ITC will also track instructor receipt of updates via a database, and direct instructors on how to reach the updates delivered.
Quality Improvement Process – Plan
For quality improvement, LiST will be using the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model for:
- Analyzing the training reports submitted by LiST.
- Analyzing evaluation for courses by instructors and students
- Identifying target areas for improvement
- Determining which processes can be modified for improvement
- Developing and executing effective strategies to improve quality
- Assessing and reviewing the implemented strategies
SOPs For Equipment Maintenance
These guidelines are designed to ensure the proper maintenance and functionality of equipment used in American Heart Association (AHA) courses at LiST Center.
Regular Inspections:
Perform regular inspections of all equipment to ensure proper functioning and identify any signs of wear, damage, or malfunction.
- Quarterly inspection of the followings:
- Cables, connectors, and electronic devices, tablets, appliance, Air conditioning for signs of damage.
- AED batteries, pads and lung bags
- After every course inspection of the followings:
- Manikins and training devices for proper inflation, compression resistance, and other essential functions.
Repairs and Maintenance:
- Immediately address any equipment malfunctions, defects, or damage.
- Keep a record of equipment repairs, including the date, description of the issue, and actions taken to resolve it.
SOPs FOR MANIKIN DECONTAMINATION
Manikin Cleaning Protocol (Follow manufacturer specific recommendations, where available)
- Individuals conducting manikin disassembly should wear gloves and wash their hands after finishing.
- Equipment should be disinfected as soon as possible after use.
- Wipe the skin of a manikin with a moist cloth to remove stains. Skins with electrodes or glued patches should be cleaned with a clean dry cloth only, as moisture could damage the attached parts.
- Face may be sanitized with the alcohol wipes.
- If manikin clothes are in need of cleaning, wash them as you would your own clothes.
During the Class:
Use 70% Denatured Alcohol and follow mentioned below points:
- Rub manikin’s nose and mouth vigorously.
- Wrap wipe snugly over mouth and nose.
- Let stay in place for 30 seconds.
- Dry manikin’s face or clean paper towel or similar item.
- Ventilation practice may now continue.
