Strengthening Community and Health System Disaster Preparedness in Vulnerable Areas of Gilgit-Baltistan

Shifa Center of Professional Excellence (SCOPE)-Shifa Foundation (SF) and Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) executed a project of Strengthening Community and Health System Disaster Preparedness in Vulnerable Areas of Gilgit-Baltistan in unprivileged areas of Kharmang, Shigar, Astore and Chilas Districts of Gilgit Baltistan. The road map of this project was based on five training sessions on Medical First Responder (MFR). The Team Shifa Foundation, SCOPE and Emergency Medicine, SIHL successfully completed and executed this project.

 

The eminent experts from Emergency Department, Shifa International Hospitals, Islamabad developed Mass Casualty Management (MCM) Plans for the relevant hospitals and shared with the Health Department, Gilgit-Baltistan with an objective of rescuing mass causality incidents, due to land-sliding, road -traffic accidents, heavy vehicles felling off roads into ditches, floods and earth quakes etc. The approved customized MCM plan was designed for the government hospitals and dispensaries of Eidgah, Darel, Gonar Farm, Kharmang, Shigar, Jaglot and Gorikot respectively.
